Featured Photographer - Tricia Nicolas

Capturing lifes most memorable moments is something important to just about everyone. Especially when it comes to family. Tricia Nicolas is an amazing family photographer that offers sessions for Family, newborns, and children of all ages. I recently asked her a few questions so I could get to know her better and so I can share with all of you!

When did you start being a photographer?
Too many years ago to admit ;)
I started in high school learning the basics of photography and the film and darkroom process…. went to Pitt for Studio Art where I learned composition, light, and digital aspects like photoshop….then spent a few years in advertising seeing a whole other side of photography….fast forward to 2013 when I finally feel settled in my career as a family, child and baby photographer.

 How did you know you know you wanted to be a photographer?
I knew i wanted to get serious about photography when my daughter was born. I wanted to document every moment and remember every milestone with images. It is easy to forget that newborn baby smell or how tiny her toes actually were but when you look at a photo all those memories and emotions come rushing back to you.

What are your favorite sessions? 
My favorite sessions are family sessions. Catching the interactions between family members and creating images that a family will cherish forever
really pulls my heartstrings. My absolute favorite is family with a newborn baby in the mix too. That special time when siblings are getting to know the newest member of the family is so much fun to capture on film.

How do you feel when you get that perfect picture?
It's honestly a moment when my heart skips a beat. I know before I even look at the back of the camera to see that I caught THAT moment. That moment that a shy boy gave a real smile, or that moment a newborn baby gave a sleepy smile. Or that moment a Mom gives a look of pure love to her daughter and gets it right back.

Tell me the about the best session you ever had?
Gosh I feel like after every session I come home gushing that it was the best session ever, ha! But there is a session that will always stand out in my mind. I was photographing a couple at Phipps last year and the guy pulled me aside and said he was going to propose to the girl!!! I was so excited for them and got to capture the moment she said yes!! Plus her sisters were there and seeing them celebrate together was wonderful. I have three sisters myself so it was extra special to see them all so happy.


Tell me a little more about you on a personal level?
I am a wife to an amazing man who encourages me to follow my dreams and a mother to a smart and sassy little beautiful two and a half year old who keeps me on my toes and is my biggest challenge and joy. We have a cat named Elvis and two bunny rabbits Dixie and Rhianna. When I'm not being a mom or a photographer I like to water ski, people watch, and laugh at The Office reruns on demand with a glass of red wine :)
